Learner Model

The learner model stores beliefs about the capabilities of the student. This includes modelling beliefs about student's domain knowledge as well as the student's meta-cognitive state and beliefs about the student's situational awareness, emotional and motivational states, and attitudes. Additionally, the student's interactions with the system are stored in a learner history.

The Open Learner Model provides ways of viewing the model, as well as mechanisms that allow the student to change the model's contents by a negotiation process. Here is a snapshot of the current interface.

The negotiation process is based on work by Toulmin which defines an argument in terms of how data can be used to reach a conclusion based on warrants and backings.
